Interesting Facts

Puffins can catch and hold up to 61 fish in its bill! But generally, they catch and hold about 10 in their bill at a time. The record is 62 fish! How can they do this? In the puffin’s mouth a series of backward-pointing spines project from the tongue and top of mouth and hold the food in place while more is being caught. What’s special about a Puffin’s Jaw? They also have an extra bone in their jaw which allows them to open their bill and keep both parts parallel. This means they can hold a row of fish without the ones at the tip of their beak falling out.
