Puffin Video and Pictures

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

I came across this short little video of two puffins, just hanging around and thought it was worth sharing. It was taken and shared by a man named Andrew on Flickr. He gave me permission to post his pictures on the site so I will! =)

You can watch the video here. I would post it but I cannot. It will open in a new window so you won’t technically leave this site.

Here are the photographs he took:

Did he see us?

These puffins are playing hide-n-go-seek with this photographer, ippop from flickr. It is so much fun. Maybe they think since they can’t see him—he can’t see them. Puffins are quirky little birds, aren’t they?

Pysja – Young puffin

Here is what the photographer had to say:

Every fall the young puffins fly from there holes at night, towards the lights, in to the town. They land there helpless and hungry trying to make there way to the sea. Kids search for them with flashlights and boxes to put them in and that same night or the morning after they trow the young puffins out to sea.

Excellent Puffin Photos

You can find some beautiful photographs of puffins in the following book.

It is self-published so you will be supporting an excellent photographer. If you are interested in this book click here.

(We do not receive any profit from recommending this book—it just honestly has some good puffin photographs).

INTERESTING FACT
It was onced believed that a Puffin was a fish as well as a bird. People thought it was born from rotting piece of wood floating in the sea, instead of hatching out from an egg as we know it does today.
